A U.S. State Department report calls Iran the most significant state sponsor of terrorism. This conclusion was published Thursday in a country by country report.
According to the State Department, Iran uses terrorism to counter Western influence and assert its regional position in the Middle East.
The report said that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force supports rebel groups that the U.S. considers to be terrorists.
These groups include both rebels in Iraq and Taliban in Afghanistan, whom Iran has supplied with weapons.
Does this accusation of Iran come at a bad time for the U.S.? Will it get in the way of diplomatic dialogue?
When and if there is diplomatic dialogue, will the U.S. and E.U. bring up Iran’s support of forces fighting against the U.S.?
