Israel’s military plans for potential bombing of Iran

The Israeli Defense Forces are finalizing specific plans to bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities if and when Israel’s government gives the go-ahead, The London Times reports.

An anonymous Israeli intelligence official said the nation wanted to show that there’s force behind its threats. A member from the Defense Ministry said Israel will not accept a nuclear-capable Iran:

Once they have a bomb it will be too late, and Israel will have no choice to strike — with or without America.

While the U.S. and E.U. recently made concessions to Iran, drawing the two sides closer to a diplomatic dialogue, the real situation between Iran and Israel is extremely fragile, a Haaretz article explains.

Obama has dramatically shifted America’s diplomatic tone toward the conciliatory. Yet new rightist Israeli government has increased international concern that the nation would “go it alone” and strike Iran without American support.

According to Haaretz, Iran has said it would respond by attacking Israel with its long-range missiles as well as attacking the U.S. in Iraq. The article also details that, despite the soft words being spoken, “Washington has also not ruled out military action.”

The U.S. and Israel have superior air warfare technology, but Iran could disrupt the oil supply coming out of the Persian Gulf. While Israel conducts nationwide civil defense drills to prepare its nation for war “tomorrow.”

The U.S. and E.U. may need to accelerate their diplomatic efforts in order to avert a major war.
